竹トンボ（Bamboo Dragon Fly)

子供の頃に良く遊んだ竹トンボを作ってみました。肉厚の竹があったのでそれを利用しましたが非常に乾燥していてかたかったので先ず２晩水につけて柔らかくしてから加工しました。カンナである程度薄くしてから中心に穴を開け、それから両側をカッターナイフで削りました。削った面はかなり凸凹になるので仕上げは木工用のやすりを使ってなるべく薄く平らに仕上げました。軸は古くなった傘の骨の一部に使われていた樹脂製の3ｍｍφの丸棒です。飛ぶことは飛びますが、まだ重量が重いようです。もう少し薄く仕上げる必要がありそうです。左右のバランスを取るのが意外に難しい作業です。

I was often used to enjoy making and playing the Bamboo Dragon Fly when I was a young boy. I found a very thick bamboo but it was very much dried and very hard so I put it into water for two days to make it soft. I used a planer to have a good thickness and made a small hole in the center of it. I made it into a good shape of the both side of it by a knife. And finished with a wood work file. I used a plastic 3mm φsmall bar which was used in a old umbrella. I think this dragon fly can fly very well but I want to make it more light. It was very hard to make a good weight balance for the both side.
